Ruth S. Hummel, right, founding president of the Plainville Historical Society, hands gavel Tuesday to her successor, Nancy Eberhardt, who was Hummel's vice president for many years. Hummel is stepping down after 40 years as leader of the historical organization. Hummel will remain as town historian and help the historical society with research. The changing of the guard took place at the group's annual meeting.
