Increased levels of parent and community involvement is one of four primary goals of the Plainville Board of Education. While involvement in the school district has historically been a priority at all levels, a number of additional steps have been taken this year to renew the focus on the importance of involvement and encourage support for school district goals.

The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education has selected the Plainville Board of Education as one of 17 Connecticut school boards to receive the Board of Education Leadership Award this year. The Plainville school district has also been selected to receive four awards as part of CABE's Excellence in Educational Communications awards program.

Plainville Community Schools is the recipient of a State Farm Good Neighbor Grant in the amount of $500, designated for the purchase of books for the Reading Partners Program. The State Farm Companies Foundation awards grants to non-profit organizations at which associates volunteer 40 hours or more per calendar year.

Beth Larkins-Strathy, who is a teacher in the Pomperaug Region 15 school system serving Middlebury and Southbury, has been named assistant principal of the Middle School of Plainville. Larkins-Strathy will fill a vacancy left by former Middle School Assistant Principal Matthew Guarino, who was named middle school principal in October 2007.

Plainville Community Schools will launch the Connect-ED automated messaging service from The NTI Group, Inc., to further enhance communication with parents, faculty and staff. Connect-ED, an Internet-based telephone and e-mail communication system, will be implemented in January.
