Residents again rejected a proposed combined schools and general government budget of $52.9 million in Tuesday's all-day budget vote - 469 to 275 - with some officials predicting that to make more adjustments, services taxpayers have come to expect are likely to be eliminated.

Members of the Town Council had said they wanted the public to attend a special meeting March 27 in order to give direction to the board on what to do about theĀ schools and general government budget. However, they got what they wanted - in spades - as residents demanded the schools part of the budget be kept the same or cut from its originally unveiled budget of $33.9 million.

Officials said they are glad the Linden Street School renovation and construction project has ended on time and well within budget, saving the town more than $533,000 off the original $21.7 million cost, bringing it down to $21.2 million.

Please note that due to the renovation of the Municipal Center, the locations for two special meetings for the Board of Education budget sessions have changed.
