The Male Mentoring Program of Queen Ann Nzinga Center traveled to New Jersey Feb. 15 for a professional basketball game between the New Jersey Nets and Utah Jazz. Ten boys with five adult male mentors traveled to the Meadowlands. As the group got closer to the arena, the boys’ eyes widened, organizers said. Some had never attended a basketball game and to travel out of state was even a bigger deal to some. Attending the professional game allowed the students to learn about the game, practice social skills learned in their mentoring program and the opportunity to bond with their male leaders. The boys reported an incredible time. Participants included, back row, from left, to right, Alexander Gatling, Randall Womack and William S. Womack Jr.; and front row, Myles Williams, Ricky Freitas, Javon Gatling and Dillyn Caruso. This program was made possible in part by a grant from the Elizabeth Norton Trust Fund.
