Karaoke Night - A karaoke night will be held Thursday, June 5, from 4 to 10 p.m., at Senor Pancho's, Route 68, Prospect, to benefit the Aidan's Angels Relay for Life team. This is open to the public. Diners should mention to the server that they are supporting Aidan's Angels Relay for Life Team and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the cause.

Boukus re-election fundraiser - A pasta dinner fundraiser for the re-election campaign of state Rep. Be the Trainer! - Relay For Life of Plainville will be held Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 15, noon to noon, in Norton Park. In support of the event, on Saturday, June 7, from noon to 2 p.m., Be The Trainer!, sponsored by Core Studio, will be held at 32 Whiting St., Plainville. For $2 per minute, up to 10 minutes per person, a Core Studio trainer/group exercise instructor can be "tortured" with a barrage of exercises. Bike and car show - Relay For Life of Plainville will be held Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 15, noon to noon, in Norton Park. Country western dance - The New England Western Dance Association is having a smoke-free country dance on Saturday, June 7, 7 to 11:30 p.m., at the Dance Hall, 161 Woodford Ave., Plainville. Electronics collection - On Saturday, June 7, residents of Plainville, and other surrounding towns will have the opportunity to bring electronics waste to the Tunxis Recycling Operating Committee Electronic Waste Collection. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the General Electric Parking Lot, Route 10 and Woodford Avenue. Acceptable items are: televisions, video cassette recorders, cell phones, computers, notebook or laptop computers, computer monitors (CRTs), personal printers, and multifunction printers. Unacceptable items are: any liquids, business copy machines, business fax machines, mainframe computers, radios, microwave ovens, stereo systems, compact disc players, tape recorders and household appliances. Pancake breakfast - The Lady Blue Devils are holding a pancake breakfast Saturday, June 7 at Applebees, 270 New Britain Ave., in Plainville. Tickets are available at all home softball games or through team members.
Read to the dogs - Plainville children are invited to read to specially trained dogs as a way of showing the fun of reading to a "buddy" at the Plainville Public Library, 56 E. Main St. Tails of Joy, a member of the Delta Society Pet Partners Affiliate Group, will bring the Reading Education Assistance Dogs Story Tails program to the children's department at the library Saturday, June 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to register for a 15-minute reading time with one of the dogs. Safety fair - A summer safety fair to emphasize summer safety will be held Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Kohl's parking lot, at Connecticut Commons, 200 New Britain Ave., Plainville. There will be interactive activities, a fire safety smokehouse and fire engine, and information about home safety, bike safety, traffic safety rollover simulator and poison control. The event is free.
Tactile art project - A tactile art project will be held Saturday, June 7, noon to 3 p.m., for visually impaired and blind children, ages 6 to 12, and their parents. The program, which is sponsored by the National Federation of the Blind, will be taped and used for further promotion; there will be permission slips at the door to be signed by parents upon entrance. Bike to dinner - The Plainville Greenway Alliance will hold a bike-to-dinner event Sunday, June 8, 4 p.m., beginning at Renaissance Cyclery, 49 W. Main St. Participants will bike local roads and trails to Collinsville center - about a one-hour bike ride - for dinner at the Crown & Hammer, located in the old train station. Pampered Chef Party - A Pampered Chef Party, sponsored by Save the Next One Team, will be held Sunday June 8, at 38 Woodland St., Plainville. A total of 15 percent of all sales will be donated to Save the Next One Relay For Life of Plainville Team. A social hour will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., and a demonstration will be at 3 p.m. A total of 15 percent of all sales will be donated to the team. The consultant will also be donating her commission. Women & Books - The Women & Books group will have the last book discussion until September on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 p.m., at the Plainville Public Library, 56 E. Main St. The event will include a pizza supper as well as a book discussion. The group will discuss "Plain Truth" by Jodi Picoult. "Plain Truth" tells the story of an 18-year-old Amish girl, Katie Fisher, who secretly gives birth to a baby out of wedlock. The baby is found dead in the barn and ultimately Katie is charged with murder.

Illustrator program - Noted illustrator, Wendell G. Minor, will give a slide presentation at the Plainville Public Library Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. His book cover illustrations have enhanced more than 2,000 works, among them, the covers of bestseller, "Truman," by David McCullough, "The Prince of Tides" and "Beach Music," by Pat Conroy. His talk will be given in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Friends of Connecticut Libraries, a statewide group. There will be a short business meeting before the presentation. Visitors who wish to stay after the presentation for a box lunch should contact the Plainville Library at (860) 793-1446. There is a $10 fee for the lunch.
Pasta dinner benefit - A pasta dinner will be held Saturday, June 14, 6 to 9 p.m., at the Dance Hall, 161 Woodford Ave. The event is a fundraiser for Chris Haddock, wife of Town Councilman Dan Hurley. Kick-off Party - The children's department of the Plainville Public Library, 56 E. Main St., is ready to "Dive into Reading" this summer. Ruth Whinnem, children's librarian, will visit each of the town's elementary schools to encourage children to join the summer reading program. The program will officially kick-off with a party Wednesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. Ed Popielarczyk will present his comical Magical Moments show. Children may sign up for the reading program that evening. Preschool children are also welcome to join the program. They may sign up that evening or anytime after the middle of June. Friends Book Discussion - On Tuesday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m., the Friends Book Discussion Group will discuss the memoir, "The Glass Castle," by Jeannette Walls. Wall's parents, a pair of unforgettable eccentrics, raised four children in most unusual and bizarre circumstances. Travelers 84th Annual Free Spring Concert at Central Connecticut
On Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 7:30 p.m., the Travelers Choral Club presents their 84th Annual Spring Concert titled Songs of Dreams.
Plan now to attend this inspirational evening of musical entertainment at Welte Auditorium located on the Central Connecticut State University campus in New Britain.
Dorothy Barnhart will direct the 76-voice choir and Stacy Cahoon will accompany the talented group of singers.
The TCC will perform songs made famous by ABBA, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles, as well as a collection of traditional early American spirituals.
This event is free, open to the public, and tickets are not required for admittance to the show. Free indoor and outdoor parking is also provided.
In lieu of paid admission and as a service to the greater Hartford community, the Travelers Choral Club asks that all in attendance provide a nonperishable food donation.
This spring concert promises to be a memorable night out so bring along family, friends, and neighbors.
