Stabbing suspect ruled mentally incompetent
An elderly woman continues to recover at a rehabilitation facility after she was stabbed in her home May 29.
On Wedneday, a judge ruled that her 76-year-old husband is not mentally competent to stand trial on charges he repeatedly stabbed his wife before calling 911. Emergency personnel reporting to the scene found Geraldine Malicki, 75, in bed, suffering from serious lacerations and puncture wounds to her head, arms and upper body.
The New Britain Superior Court judge ruled that Leon Malicki be taken to Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown for psychiatric observation and treatment for a period of 60 days.
Malicki has been in custody since his arrest when he allegedly stabbed his wife in their home. Based on evidence at the scene, he was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and first-degree assault. He was being held on $750,000 bond.
After the observation and treatment period, Malicki will again be evaluated and his condition presented to the court, officials said.
