What do you think of Plainville's Downtown Beautification Project?

I think it is too late for

I think it is too late for downtown - It'll look good but if there are no businesses there are no customers and vice versa. However, the Southington downtown beautification did seem to revitalize the downtown area except their new traffic plan with bumpouts makes parking very frustrating. Not a good idea for Plainville either.

downtown beautification

i don't see why we are wasting the taxpayers money to beatify the downtown area when there isn't anything there. the "bump out" areas should be interesting in the winter months when snow removal is necessary. it's time for us to spend our money wisely - use some common sense.

Downtown needs something to

Downtown needs something to attract more people. Can we give some tax breaks to small businesses?

bump outs

I think that Moe Larry and Curly had some help from Cheech and Chong when they designed the sidewalk system and layout in the center of town. the bump out at the driveway to the back parking area of the old rogers sticks out two feet into the drive area, this will be fun for cars entering and leaving at the same time! I will say that the bump outs are the most stupid thing that could happen to the center of town. All we really needed was to remove the old trolley tracks. Has anyone noticed the tire tracks on the new granite curbs? I become more and more dumbfounded each day with the lack of common sense that seems to be prevalent in Plainville.

SIMPLE - COPY SOUTHINGTON!

The Town of Plainville could've saved lots of time and $$$$ if they just drove over to our lovely, neighboring town, Southington, and took a tour of their new downtown area which is absolutely beautiful! It's not rocket science folks - start simple.......... uniform awnings on all the storefronts, old fashioned lamp posts (oh yes, we have those now, great!), a one-way street with one way parking down Whiting Street in front of the stores with extended sidewalks with small patio areas for people to sit and enjoy some fine food and drink, planters with flowers and greenery. Did any of the people in charge even consider looking at Southington? Their town Beautification is what we should be using as a shining example of what to do with our small downtown area. Make these changes and the businesses will come. Unfortunately, a little too little too late - Bantam would've fit in perfectly, shame on the Town for not making our Downtown area a priority YEARS AGO!

PS - What ARE those bump-outs for anyway? Wasted space is what it looks like to me.........................

Ugh!

I think the jack-hammering that began last night, at 10:58 PM, has jadded my opinion of the project. I understand the need for off-hours construction but, a little consideration for the folks who live nearby would be nice.

The bump outs are HORRIBLE!

The bump outs are HORRIBLE! What purpose do they serve? Why are they there? Are they supposed to be attractive? All they do is hinder driving and parking. The one on the corner of Maple and Whiting makes it very difficult to take a safe right turn off Maple unless there is no traffic coming through the center. The street was not wide enough to begin with...and they add these? I don't get it. JACKHAMMER THE BUMP OUTS AND START OVER! Whoever approved the design of this should be ashamed. I find myself actually avoiding driving through the center now, which I never avoided before. Sad, sad.
