A track crew member tends to a three-car spinout in the light 160 race during Eastern Grand National Quarter Midgets racing yesterday at Silver City Quarter Midget track in Meriden The Silver City Quarter Midget Club is hosting a national race, which started June 20. Families from all over the United States, including the LaBellas from Plainville, and Canada arrived with recreational vehicles and car trailers in order to participate in the 2008 Eastern Grands. Practice started June 23, at noon, with Meriden’s mayor Mark Benigni giving the first green flag. Qualifying races started Tuesday with opening cermonies held Wednesday. Racing will continue through Saturday, June 28. The event is free. There is a full concession stand and plenty of bleacher seating.
